Many thanks to Katie from Family Tree Clinic, and the 70+ parents that came out for the Parents as Sexuality Educators event on Thursday night! It was a great discussion around the kinds of conversations to have with our children about sexuality. Just a few of the important things that we discussed were:
- All parents/guardians are sex educators.
- The easiest way to have "the talk" is to talk early and talk often - Start talking about sexuality right at birth by labeling body parts, and to keep gradually advancing the conversation in age-appropriate ways as children get older and more mature.
- Answer questions about sexuality with short, age-appropriate answers.
- Books like It's Not the Stork on their own aren't enough, but they're a great place to start!
Join us at our next event in May, details to be announced soon over on our Facebook page.
